Every state has its own processes for name changes and its own options and rules for gender marker changes.
And those laws change pretty often these days. Much of the information you'll find online is likely out-of-date.

Born Abroad as a U.S. Citizen?
If you have been a U.S. citizen from birth but you do not have a state birth certificate because you were born abroad, you might instead have a "Consular Report of Birth Abroad of U.S. Citizen" document.
If so, you might want to ask the judge handling your Missouri name change case to cross out Question #5 on the Missouri "Judgment for Change of Name of Adult Individual" form to avoid confusion about your birth records.
Use Dept. of State form DS5542 to request an updated CRBA after you finish the court process for your name change.

Naturalized U.S. Citizen?
If you were not a U.S. citizen at birth but you became a U.S. citizen through a naturalization process, then you might need to change your name and/or gender marker on your Certificate of Naturalization.
If so, you might want to ask the judge handling your Missouri name change case to cross out Question #5 on the Missouri "Judgment for Change of Name of Adult Individual" form to avoid confusion about your birth records.
Use USCIS Form N-565 to request an updated Certificate of Naturalization after you finish the court process for your name change.
